DE PERE - St. Norbert College couldn't hold a pair of two-goal leads and settled for a 4-4 overtime tie with Marian University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center. The Sabres won the shootout 1-0 for an extra point in the league standings.
Marian took a 1-0 lead at 15:16 of the first period on a goal by Jaymes Knee, but
Adam Stacho tied the game late in the frame with a goal at 18:58 for a 1-1 tie at first intermission.
Ben Schmidling put the Green Knights ahead 2-1 with a goal at 8:22, and he added a 4-on-4 marker at 15:22 for a 3-1 lead. Marian would get a big power-play goal late in the second, with Nick Cherkowski scoring at 18:51
St. Norbert would get a two-goal lead back when
Liam Fraser scored a power-play marker at 2:30 of the third period. The Sabres would rally with a goal by Jack Sampson at 7:28 and a power-play goal by Knee at 8:27.
St. Norbert outshot Marian 6-5 in overtime. Knee scored the only goal in the shootout, finishing in the second round.
Schmidling added an assist for a three-point game. Stacho added an assist, while
Brendan Aird had two assists for two-point games.
St. Norbert outshot Marian 47-32.
Johnny Roberts made 28 saves for the Green Knights, while Colby Muise made 43 stops for Marian.
The Green Knights were 1-for-4 on the power play, while Marian was 2-for-3.
