WAUWATOSA - St. Norbert College clinched a berth in the six-team Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Baseball Tournament after splitting a doubleheader against Wisconsin Lutheran College at Neumann Family Field. The Green Knights lost the opener 2-0 before taking the nightcap 4-1.
The Green Knights, who not only clinched a berth in the tournament but will be at least the No. 4 seeding, will open the tournament on Thursday, May 12 at Kapco Park on the Concordia University Wisconsin campus in Mequon. Pairings will be set after the conclusion of play on Sunday.
St. Norbert couldn't solve Wisconsin Lutheran's Fabio Kamitani in the opener, getting blanked on eight hits. Kamitani did not walk a batter and struck out seven. He outdueled St. Norbert's
Mason Sefcik, who took a tough complete-game loss while scattering 12 hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Wisconsin Lutheran scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
Nick Volz and
Adam Cootway each went 2-for-4 for St. Norbert.
The Green Knights got on the board first in Game 2, with
Luke Follmann scoring on an error in the fourth inning. St. Norbert added a pair of runs in the sixth inning, with
Tommy Sheehan plating a run on a groundout and
Devin Geary lifting a sacrifice fly. Wisconsin Lutheran got a run back in the seventh, but the Green Knights scored in the eighth on a Geary RBI single.
Caden Uhlenbrack was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Cootway and
Isaac Gerhardt were both 2-for-5.
Aiden Trusky got the win, allowing seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
Trevor Reinhardt allowed one hit in the last two innings for the save.
