St. Norbert Engineers Win Over Illinois Tech

DE PERE - St. Norbert College got back on track with an 80-67 win over Illinois Institute of Technology in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (13-8, 9-5 NACC) trailed just once - coming early at 3-2 - before going on an 11-0 run to jump ahead. Garrett Grzesk's conventional three-point play put St. Norbert back ahead, with Evan Glaser following with three consecutive baskets. Michael Payant's hoop put St. Norbert ahead 13-3 just over 4 minutes into the game.

The Scarlet Hawks (7-11, 6-6) got back to within two points at 24-22 with 6:19 left in the first half, but St. Norbert then went on a 10-0 run to take control for good. Jacob Bolwerk's conventional three-point play but St. Norbert up by five, with Bolwerk adding another hoop and Josh Nicklaus canning a 3-pointer for a 32-22 lead. Carter Gebler's basket at the 2:46 mark put St. Norbert ahead 34-2. Following an Illinois Tech basket, Payant hit a 3-pointer and Nicklaus had a steal and dunk to give the Green Knights a 39-24 halftime lead.

Illinois Tech cut its deficit down to eight at 44-36 with 16:13 to go, but St. Norbert went on another run - this one 8-0 - to lead 52-36. Payant converted a four-point play, with Carson Talbert and Gebler scoring to lead 52-36 with 13:47 to go. The Scarlet Hawks would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

St. Norbert shot 46.3 percent (25-for-54) from the floor. Glaser led the Green Knights with 18 point, while Payant added 15 points. Bowlerk finished with 13 points, while Parker Lawrence chipped in 11 points. The Green Knights were also a lusty 24-for-26 (92.3 percent) at the free-throw line.

Illinois Tech shot 48 percent (25-for-50) from the floor. Otis Reale finished with a game-high 26 points, while Calvin Schmitz added 12 points.
