DE PERE - St. Norbert College extended its school-record winning streak to 18 consecutive games with a 6-1 triumph over Milwaukee School of Engineering in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.
The Green Knights (19-3, 15-0 NCHA), ranked No. 5 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, benefited from a four-point game from
Liam Fraser, who registered his first collegiate hat trick.
St. Norbert and MSOE appeared to skate to a scoreless first period until
Max Brainin snuck a shot inside the far post with 10 seconds left in the stanza for a 1-0 lead. The Green Knights went on a power play after the Raiders were cited for elbowing on the scoring play.
The Green Knights wasted little time doubling their lead when Fraser scored off a drop pass from Bates to score the power-play goal just 18 seconds into the second period. That goal would hold up as the second period's only scoring as St. Norbert carried a 2-0 lead into second intermission.
Brainin then gave St. Norbert some breathing room when he scored at 8:54 of the third period for his second career multi-goal game. Fraser scored 40 seconds later, skating past the MSOE defense for a 4-0 lead.
Chase Mickelson scored his first goal of the season with a shot from the point at 13:36. Fraser then cashed in another power-play chance with a marker at 16:31, his 18th goal of the season. MSOE closed out the scoring with a power-play goal by Kyle Herbster at 18:35.
Besides Fraser and Brainin, also posting multi-point games were
Peyton Frantti with three assists, Mickelson added an assist for a two-point game, and
Peter Bates finished with two assists.
St. Norbert outshot the Raiders 33-23.
Colby Entz made 22 saves for the Green Knights, while Darius Bell made 27 stops for MSOE.
