DE PERE - St. Norbert College advanced in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Tournament with a 60-46 win over Rockford University in a quarterfinal-round game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (18-7) will host Benedictine University at 7 p.m. Friday in a NACC Semifinal at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
St. Norbert never trailed and built a double-digit lead in the first quarter. With the score tied 4-4, the Green Knights went on a 10-0 run to take control.
Chloe Gruszynski hit a jumper and 3-pointer for the first five points, and
Mary Cravillion followed with a trey and hoop of her own for a 14-4 lead with 3:29 left in the quarter. Following a Rockford basket,
Madison Herdina and
Emma Morrisey converted baskets for an 18-6 lead. Morrisey's hoop with 24 seconds in left in the quarter gave St. Norbert a 20-8 lead after the first 10 minutes.
The Green Knights led 24-13 with 6:40 left in the second quarter and then went on a 7-0 run to take a 33-13 lead on a 3-pointer by Cravillion with 3:10 left in the period. The Regents closed the half on a 10-1 run to trail 34-23 at halftime.
St. Norbert kept its lead in the teens for most of the third period, leading by as many as 19 points, including 55-36 at the end of the quarter after an
Olivia DeCleene basket. Rockford would get to within 12 at 58-46 with 4:14 left, but it would not score the rest of the game.
The Green Knights shot 40.4 percent from the floor, making 21 of 52 field-goal attempts. Cravillion posted a team-high 16 points, while DeCleene had 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five assists. St. Norbert held a 44-33 advantage on the glass.
Rockford shot 28.3 percent (17-for-60) from the floor. Anaya Davis led the Regents with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
