WAUWATOSA - St. Norbert College survived a defensive battle and came out with a 7-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Raabe Stadium.
The Green Knights (4-1, 3-0 NACC) picked up their lowest-scoring win since a 6-3 triumph over UW-Whitewater on Sept. 11, 1976 at Minahan Stadium.
St. Norbert punted on its three first-quarter possessions and held Wisconsin Lutheran on downs at the Green Knights' 21-yard line late in the period, which ended scoreless.
The Green Knights took over at their own 23 following a short punt with 11:20 left in the second quarter, and needed just seven plays to matriculate 77 yards for the game's only scoring.
John Trinh's plunge from the 2 and
Dan Simon's point-after put St. Norbert ahead 7-0. St. Norbert had two golden scoring chances later in the second quarter come up empty, when a 35-yard field-goal attempt hit the left upright and the Green Knights then lost a fumble at the Warriors' 15-yard line just before halftime.
The second half consisted mostly of jockeying for field position. St. Norbert got big stops in the third quarter when
Alex Campbell intercepted the Warriors on their opening series at the St. Norbert 16 and
Joe Jung intercepted Wisconsin Lutheran at the Green Knights' 9 late in the quarter.
St. Norbret ran 25 plays in the fourth quarter to the Warriors' 16, holding the ball for 12:39 in the last 15 minutes. St. Norbert had a chance to put the game away with 1:47 left but a 30-yard field-goal attempt was blocked. Wisconsin Lutheran then advanced to the St. Norbert 46, but
Drew Jurack's interception at the St. Norbert 7 with 51 seconds left sealed the win.
St. Norbert outgained Wisconsin Lutheran 359-263 in total offense.
Delton Zuleger rushed 17 times fo 89 yards and Trinh had 68 yards on 18 carries. Gilles completed 11 of 22 passes for 156 yards and also added 44 yards rushing.
Cameron Krueger caught four passes for 70 yards.
Justin Parbs had 116 rushing yards on 25 carries to lead Wisconsin Lutheran. Two Warriors' quarterbacks completed 9 of 29 passes for 126 yards and four interceptions. St. Norbert has intercepted Wisconsin Lutheran passes 11 times in the last two seasons.
Jung had nine tackles and two interceptions to pace the St. Norbert defense.
Logan Dorner and
Michael Creighton added seven tackles apiece.
