LISLE, Ill. - St. Norbert College held off a late Benedictine University rally to claim a 3-2 win in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Village of Lisle/Benedictine Sports Complex.
The Green Knights clinched a berth in the NACC Tournament with the win. St. Norbert will be the No. 6 seeding and will play at the as-yet-undetermined No. 3 seeding on Saturday, Oct. 29.
St. Norbert carried a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to
Haley Leadingham's goal at 19:30, her seventh marker of the season.
Benedictine tied the match on a Xitali Sanchez goal at 48:28. The Green Knights pushed back ahead on Emily Gorzlanczyk's second goal of the season with a score at 57:24. St. Norbert preserved its lead when
Carlene Goral saved a penalty-kick try in the 73rd minute.
St. Norbert added on a valuable insurance goal at 74:52, when
Emilie Harwood scored off a
Mallory Names assist. Benedictine would get a goal back at 86:46 on an Olivia McPherson goal, but the Eagles would not get the equalizer.
Benedictine outshot St. Norbert 17-11.
Abby Thompson had four shots for the Green Knights, while Harwood and Leadingham had two apiece.
Goral made three saves in the second half, while
Lilly Collins made three saves in the first half for St. Norbert. Katherine Prochnow made two saves for Benedictine.
