St. Norbert Gets Bogged Down At Aurora

MONTGOMERY, Ill. - St. Norbert College had five trips into the Aurora University red zone come away with no points to factor in a 28-6 loss in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Spartan Stadium.

The Green Knights (4-3, 3-2 NACC) opened the game with a long drive that went 74 yards over 18 plays that melted 8:57 off the clock, but St. Norbert was turned away from the Aurora 1 on third and fourth down. St. Norbert forced Aurora into a three-and-out and took advantage, needing 10 plays to go 50 yards and score on an 8-yard pass from Richie Gilles to Austin Miller for a 6-0 lead.

Aurora then went on a long drive of its own, capped off on a 1-yard touchdown pass from Josh Swanson to Michael Boland with 9:57 left in the second quarter. Each team traded three scoreless possession until St. Norbert drove to the Aurora 16 late in the half, but a 33-yard field-goal attempt was blocked to keep Aurora ahead 7-6 at halftime.

The Spartans scored on the opening possession of the second half on a 54-yard run by Jhequay Chretin. Following a trade of punts, St. Norbert advanced to the Aurora 5 with a first-and-goal, but was turned away empty-handed. Aurora then went 98 yards in nine plays to take a 21-6 lead on a 2-yard run by Chretin 11 seconds into the fourth quarter.

St. Norbert reached the Aurora 13 on the next series but was intercepted in the end zone, which turned into a Swanton to Trey Madsen 7-yard touchdown pass to salt the game away.

Aurora outgained St. Norbert 365-298 in total offense. Gilles completed 23 of 48 passes for 281 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Parker Lawrence caught eight passes for 88 yards.

Chretin rushed 21 times for 142 yards and two touchdowns, while Swanson completed 17 of 27 passes for 143 yards with two touchdowns and one interception to pace the Spartans.

Sam Barnett led the St. Norbert defense with a career-high 17 tackles. Joe Jung had seven tackles and an interception.
