DE PERE - St. Norbert College overcame a slow start to prevail 3-1 over Lakeland University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (12-8, 7-1 NACC), who won their fifth-straight match, topped the Muskies 17-25, 26-24, 26-24, 25-19.
Lakeland hit a robust .385 behind 18 kills to be in control throughout the first set. The second set featured eight ties and six lead changes. St. Norbert took a 4-1 lead in the set before Lakeland responded to take a 10-8 lead. The Muskies would hold a 21-19 lead until St. Norbert scored three-straight points for a 22-21 edge. Lakeland had set point at 24-23 before the Green Knights closed out the set with a kill from
Rylie Gregg, a Lakeland attack error and a
Lauren Borchardt kill.
The third set had a whopping 17 ties and eight lead changes. St. Norbert seemed to be in control with a 23-20 lead but the Muskies went on a 4-1 run to knot the score 24-24 and force a second deuce set.
Brooke Clement closed the door with a kill and a service ace and a 2-1 lead. The Green Knights bolted out to an 11-5 fourth-set lead, and the Muskies would not get closer than three points the rest of the way.
St. Norbert hit .245, with 61 kills and 21 errors in 163 attempts. Gregg totaled 15 kills, with Clement adding 14 and
Alyssa Mills 12.
Ellie Hartson posted a career-high 51 assists. Clement had four service aces and Gregg added two.
Erin Eggers had 21 digs, while Clement had 12 and Hartson 10.
Molly Rader finished with five blocks, and Clement finished with two.
Lakeland hit .237, with 58 kills and 21 errors in 156 swings. Susana Stevens had a match-high 16 kills.
