St. Norbert Runs Away From Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. - St. Norbert College rebounded from its first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference loss of the year with a resounding 67-42 triumph over Rockford University at Seaver Center.

The Green Knights (9-5, 6-1 NACC), who dropped their first NACC game this past Tuesday, shot 46.2 percent from the floor, making 24 of 52 field-goal attempts. St. Norbert also made all 12 of its free-throw attempts.

Rockford led 10-9 just over midway through the first quarter until the Green Knights went on a 5-0 mini-run on a pair of Kaycee Gierczak free throws and a 3-pointer by Olivia DeCleene which gave St. Norbert a lead it would never relinquish. Mari Beltran's hoop with 53 seconds left in the period gave St. Norbert an 18-12 lead before settling on an 18-14 lead after 10 minutes.

The Green Knights led 20-19 with 5:31 left in the second quarter before going on a 14-0 run to close out the half. Gierczak got the run started with a pair of free throws. Natalie Cerrato added a 3-pointer, followed by a Casey Jepson hoop and two Emma Morrisey free throws. Gierczak added a basket and Sarah Chouinard canned a 3-pointer for a 34-19 halftime lead.

St. Norbert would lead by at least 12 points throughout the third quarter and led 47-31 at the end of the period. A 3-pointer and layup from Morrisey gave St. Norbert a 55-33 lead with 6:46 remaining.

Morrisey posted 17 points, while Gierczak added 14 points and Jepson 17 points. DeCleene flirted with a triple-double, finishing with nine points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Rockford shot 27.9 percent (17-for-61) from the floor. Naynay Clark and Anaya Davis led the Regents with eight points apiece.
