Green Knights Sweep Ripon to Close Out Season

Emma WieseRIPON - St. Norbert College finished its 2021 season on a positive note with a pair of wins over Ripon College by scores of 4-3 and 9-3 in a Midwest Conference North Division doubleheader at Tracy Field.

The Green Knights saw their season come to a close with a 19-9 overall record and a 12-4 mark in the MWC North.

St. Norbert got a solid pitching performance from Ellie Olsen in the opener, who picked up her ninth win of the season. Olsen spun a four-hitter, allowing two earned runs with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Green Knights scored twice in the second inning on an Allison Knop two-run single. St. Norbert added to its lead with a Morgan Moxon RBI single in the third inning. Ripon would cut the deficit to 3-2 with single runs in the third and fifth innings, but St. Norbert got a big insurance run in the sixth on a Carmen Yost run-scoring single. The Red Hawks would get one run in the sixth, but were set down in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Sarah Koltermann was 2-for-3, while Moxon and Knop were both 2-for-4 for St. Norbert, which had nine hits.

In the nightcap, Ripon took an early lead with two runs in the second inning. Kayla Bahr then smacked an RBI double in the third to get St. Norbert on the board, but Ripon got the run back in its half of the inning. The Green Knights scored in the fourth on a solo home run from Koltermann. St. Norbert grabbed the lead for good with three runs in the fifth inning on just one hit and two Ripon errors, with Moxon's two-run single the big blow. Bahr had an RBI single in the sixth for a 6-3 lead. The Green Knights put the game out of reach with three runs in the seventh inning, with Knop getting an RBI single and Abby Primus a sacrifice fly.

Koltermann was 2-for-2, while Moxon was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Primus was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, while Bahr was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.

Emma Wiese twirled a complete-game win, allowing nine hits wiht no walks and three strikeouts.
