DE PERE - St. Norbert College picked up a win in its opening game of the 14th Annual Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament with a 79-42 triumph over Northland College at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (8-3) advance to play No. 3-ranked UW-Platteville (12-0) in the tournament championship at 7 p.m. Thursday. Northland will face Beloit College in the consolation game at 5 p.m. Thursday. Platteville topped Beloit 74-46 in the tournament opener.
St. Norbert trailed 6-4 in the early stages before going on a 22-3 run to take control.
Parker Lawrence canned four 3-pointers during the run, while
Carson Talbert added a pair of baskets.
Aidan Harrington's jumper with 10:39 left in the half put St. Norbert ahead 26-9. The first-half lead eventually reached 23 points twice in the first half before the Green Knights settled on a 38-20 halftime lead.
The Green Knights opened the second half on a 16-0 run to take a 54-20 lead with 12:58 to go.
Jacob Bolwerk had five points during the run, while Talbert and Lawrence had four points apiece. St. Norbert's largest lead came at 77-35 with 2:08 left to play on a pair of
Brandt Wilson free throws.
A total of 14 different Green Knights cracked the scoring column, led by Lawrence's 18 points and five steals. Bolwerk and Grzesk had nine points apiece, while Wilson had a game-high nine rebounds. St. Norbert shot 46.4 percent (32-for-69) from the floor and was 7-for-20 (35 percent) from distance.
Northland shot 28.1 percent (16-for-57) from the floor and was 7-for-29 (24.1 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. Drew Lindberg led the Lumberjacks with nine points.
The game, which lasted just 1 hour 14 minutes, had just 15 fouls whistled with an 8-7 split in favor of Northland.
