DE PERE - St. Norbert College couldn't overcome a tough third quarter and dropped a 71-56 decision to Carroll University in the Nicolet National Bank Tip-Off Tournament at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights led 29-28 at halftime but the Pioneers went on a 22-7 run over the first 5 1/2 minutes of the quarter to take a 50-36 lead and control of the game. Carroll led 55-39 after three quarters.
St. Norbert cut its deficit down to 10 on two occasions in the fourth quarter but couldn't get to single digits until it got to within 65-56 with 59 seconds remaining.
The two teams battled to a 15-15 tie after the first quarter. The Green Knights took a 24-22 lead on a
Casey Jepson 3-pointer with 5:35 left in the second quarter. St. Norbert had a pair of three-point leads late in the second quarter before settling on the one-point edge.
St. Norbert shot 42 percent (21-for-50) from the floor. Jepson led the Green Knights with 14 points, while
Olivia DeCleene had 13 points and nine assists. Both players were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Carroll shot 43.1 percent (25-for-58) from the floor. Katie Rohner had a game-high 19 points en route to being named Tournament MVP. Natlie Palzkill and Allison Thompson had 12 points apiece, and both were named ot the All-Tournament Team.
