RIVER FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College lost for the first time this season in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play with a 2-0 setback to Dominican University at West Campus Field.
The defeat only moderately tightened the NACC standings. The Green Knights currently stand at 9-1 in the NACC, good for 27 points with two matches remaining. Dominican moved into second place with 22 points (7-2-1), while Milwaukee School of Engineering held at 20 points (6-1-2) after losing 2-1 at Concordia University Chicago. St. Norbert can clinch its first NACC championship in any sport with a win over MSOE at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Schneider Stadium.
St. Norbert couldn't generate much offense in the first half against Dominican, getting away just one shot. Dominican's only shot on goal in the first half found the cage, with Alex Espino scoring unassisted at 31:56. The Stars got an insurance goal from John Cronnolly at 57:30.
Shots ended up even at 10-10 and the Green Knights had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. The match totaled 32 fouls, with St. Norbert whistled for 17.
Daniel Yurk made one save in 60 minutes of action, while
Nate Jocz turned away one shot in 30 minutes between the posts. Daniel Dominguez made six saves for Dominican.
